I didn't do any yoga in India, and I didn't visit Mysore, which is the home of Ashtanga yoga and its still-teaching 92 year old founder Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Since I've been taking yoga classes and practicing yoga for years, taking a random class at a beach hotel didn't seem like a priority. And I didn't have the background or even the minimum two months of time (unless I skipped the rest of my trip) to study at Jois' Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. Maybe I'll go there in 10 years if he's still teaching at 102!
I just got his book, from Amazon.com. I haven't read a single book about yoga before, and I've never bought a yoga magazine. Now I'm practicing yoga every day, and going to classes most days. So it seemed about time to read something about it. I also ordered a book about yoga anatomy. Rather than spending more months in India trying to learn these things in Sanskrit, I can learn about them right here on my couch, and floor.
Without reading any books, I can already tell that practicing every day is key. I already notice a difference, in only 6 weeks. After the whole summer it will be interesting to see what happens.
